Meet Elaine

I’m an independent sustainability consultant helping organizations make meaningful progress on sustainability. With nearly 20 years of experience leading ESG efforts within global pharmaceutical and biotech companies including Baxter, Takeda and Amgen, I know firsthand what it takes to move from ambition to action. My advisory work focuses on helping companies design, integrate and communicate corporate responsibility strategies that create real business value and positive impact.

I bring a pragmatic, collaborative approach to my work, bridging strategy and execution to get things done. Clients describe me as grounded, diplomatic and solutions-oriented, especially when navigating complexity and change. Before my focus on sustainability, I held roles at a healthcare trade association, a healthcare university and a public relations firm serving clients across multiple industries. I am actively engaged in industry and professional organizations, including serving on the board of the Women in Sustainability Leadership Awards. Based near Los Angeles, I enjoy spending my free time volunteering in my community and my children’s schools, and taking walks with my husband and rescue pup.

    Creation of a new sustainability function

    After Baxalta’s spin-off from Baxter, I built the company’s sustainability function from the ground up, establishing and directing a cross-functional Citizenship and Sustainability Working Group to integrate sustainability into core operations. I also led Baxalta’s inaugural materiality assessment and developed a forward-looking sustainability strategy that aligned ESG priorities with long-term business objectives.

    Global sustainability leadership at a Japanese multinational

    In my role with a leading Japanese global healthcare company, I oversaw strategic ESG communications, including the high-profile announcement of the company’s 2040 carbon neutrality commitment at the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference. I established the company’s first dedicated ESG team and led the integration of sustainability into the corporate philosophy and enterprise strategy. In building and developing a Japan-based sustainability team, I strengthened global capabilities, enhanced cross-regional alignment, and advanced the organization’s overall ESG maturity.

    Sustainability reporting and communications expert

    I’ve led and delivered more than 30 sustainability reports, shaping disclosure strategies for global companies and advancing transparency, credibility, and stakeholder trust. I’ve also developed strategic messaging and briefing materials for Boards of Directors, executives, and senior leaders to guide decision-making and strengthen alignment on sustainability priorities.
